Символ серця часто використовується для позначення кохання. Символ серця як джерела мудрості та засобу пізнання. Але перше глибинне трактування того мотиву подибуємо у Григорія Сковороди. Для Сковороди серце позначало не фізичний орган і не прості людські емоції, а щось незмірно більше і глибше. За його словами, серце – це безодня, яка одкривається в людській істоті. Безодня, що є джерелом усіх наших думок, почуттів і дій. У принципі, своєю концепцією «серця» Сковорода передбачив відкриття психології ХХ ст. Серце – це той безмежний психопростір за межами свідомости, що містить знання неспівмірно глибше і ширше від знання інтелекту. І серце пов’язане з ідеєю людини-мікрокосмосу, в якій живе відбиття усіх правд і містерій всесвіту. Тому, для Сковороди, пізнавши себе не поверховим розумом, а глибиною серця, людина пізнає Бога.

According to him, the heart is an abyss, which opens in the human being. The abyss is the source of all our thoughts, feelings and actions. In principle, with his concept of "heart" Skovoroda anticipated the discovery of the psychology of the twentieth century. The heart is the limitless psychosphere beyond the consciousness, which contains knowledge incommensurably deeper and wider than knowledge of intelligence. And the heart is connected with the idea of man-microcosm, in which the reflection of all the truths and mysteries of the universe lives. Therefore, for Skovoroda, having known himself not the superficial mind, but the depth of the heart, man knows God.
