Берегиня — богиня добра, захисту людини, оселі, малих дітей від хвороб та інших злих сил. Берегиня — оберіг непорушної вірності подружжя. Символом берегині є родинне багаття, в якому людина знаходить мир, спокій, любов і високу мораль. Рушники із зображенням берегині вивішували над вікнами й дверима.
