За благочестивому переказами, образ Божої Матері Володимирської був написаний євангелістом Лукою на дошці від столу, за яким був за трапезою Спаситель з Пречистою Матір'ю і праведним Йосипом Обручником.
Це найбільш ліричний з усіх типів іконографії Богородиці. Іконографічна схема включає дві фігури - Богородиці і Немовляти Христа, притулені одна до одної ликами. Голова Марії схилена до Сина, а Він обіймає рукою Мати за шию.
According to pious tradition, the image of Our Lady of Vladimir was written by St. Luke on the board of the table at which the meal was the Savior of the Blessed Mother and righteous Joseph the Betrothed.
