Одним з найвидатніших військових діячів українського народу періоду боротьби проти шляхетської Польщі був козацький лицар, кальницький полковник Іван Богун — безмежної відваги воїн, талановитий полководець, блискучий майстер польових боїв і захисту міст, які він перетворював на неприступні фортеці. Зовсім мало збереглося відомостей про той період життя Богуна який передував 1648 р. — початку великої битви українського народу за своє соціальне і національне визволення.
Попри всі затемнені колізії його життєвого шляху, із джерел і матеріалів, що нам відомі, вимальовується постать людини непересічної, яскравої. Це був мужній, безстрашний і відважний воїн-козак, талановитий полководець, безкомпромісний у своїй відданості ідеї служіння своєму народові. Ім'я Івана Богуна - видатного полководця епохи Хмельниччини - назавжди залишилося в пам'яті нащадків, про що свідчать численні народні перекази та думи, назви установ і меморіальні дошки.
One of the most prominent military figures of the Ukrainian people during the period of the struggle against gentry Poland was the Cossack Knight, the Kalnyk Colonel Ivan Bohun - the unlimited courage of the warrior, a talented military leader, a brilliant master of field battles and the protection of cities, which he turned into impregnable fortresses. There was very little information about the period of Bogun life that preceded 1648 - the beginning of a great battle for the Ukrainian people for their social and national liberation. In spite of all the darkened collisions of his life path, from the sources and materials that we are aware of, the figure of a man is remarkable, vivid. It was a courageous, fearless and brave Cossack warrior, a talented military leader, uncompromising in his devotion to the idea of serving his people. The name of Ivan Bohun, an outstanding commander of the Khmelnytsky era, has always remained in the memory of the descendants, as evidenced by numerous folk tales and dumas, the names of institutions and memorial plaques.
