Лісовик — персонаж слов'янської міфології, лісовий дух, втілення лісу; бог вовків, що опікується їхнім прогодуванням. В переносному значення лісовик — той, хто живе в лісі. Лісовик уявлявся як дід, часто одягнений у звірині шкури чи червоний одяг. Йому притаманні атрибути, пов'язані з лівим боком — ліва частина одягу покриває праву, ліве взуття одягнуто на правій нозі тощо. Може змінювати зріст, стаючи то нижчим від трави, то вищим за дерева. Очі цього духа зелені й палають. Також лісовик здатний постати в подобі вовка, сови, або вітру. Вважалося, лісовик не має тіні. Влітку ходить лісом, а взимку спить у землі. Вважався покровителем вовків та дрібних звірів, що випасає зайців і оленів, а ведмеді служать йому як охоронці. За народними уявленнями слов'ян, лісовика можна задобрити, лишивши для нього частування. Наприклад, мисливцям за це дух приганятиме звірів, а худобі пастухів не дає загубитися в лісі...

Also, the forester is able to appear in the likeness of a wolf, owl, or wind. It was believed that the forester has no shadow. In summer he walks in the woods, and in winter he sleeps in the ground. He was considered the patron saint of wolves and small animals, grazing hares and deer, and bears serve as his guardians. According to the popular beliefs of the Slavs, the forester can be appeased, leaving him a treat. For example, hunters will be driven by the spirit for this, and the cattle of shepherds will not be lost in the forest...
