Наразі неможливо точно сказати, що означає український тризуб. Існують десятки версій його значень, найпопулярніші з них:
- Тризуб містить число три, що означає єдність Бога-Батька, Бога-Сина та Бога-Духа Святого;
- Згідно язичницьких вірувань, тризуб є відображенням Триглава або Роду: чоловіче начало, жіноче начало, народження і смерть;
- У тризубі зашифроване слово "Воля";
- Тризуб – це намальваний образок із фігур старинної зброї: лук, меч та інші;
- Тризуб є зображенням голуба, як символу Святого Духа.
