Риба, як відомо, живе у воді. А вода — це праматір світу. Саме з води, за міфами й легендами різних народів, виникло все живе. Отож риба, як і вода, символізує життя, очищення, здоров’я і плодючість. У багатьох народів є легенди про велетенських рибин — двох чи трьох, які тримають на собі землю. Україні шанують міфічну рибу, яка була “спервовіку”: вона все бачила, все знає, що є і що буде, ще й має стати свідком кінця світу...

Символіка риби містить багато різноманітних, іноді полярно протилежних значень. З часів глибокої давнини риба асоціювалась із Вчителями, світовими Спасителями, праотцями, мудрістю. Символізм риби тісно пов'язаний із символізмом води, водної стихії. У найрізноманітніших міфологіях вода — першопочаток, вихідний стан усього сущого, джерело життя. Тому риби, які вільно живуть у воді, у першоствореному океані, наділяються деміургічною силою, а також у низці міфів виявляються предками людей. Вода також асоціюється із несвідомим, у глибині вод приховане знання, яке важко (або неможливо) знайти людині, але яке доступне рибі. Вода очищує, ритуальне омовіння символізує друге народження, повернення до першопочатку, тому риба, що живе в воді, уособлює надію на нове народження.

Water purifies, ritual washing symbolizes the second birth, return to the firstborn, so the fish living in water, represents hope for a new birth.

Свічник-трійця «Хрест» / Candlestick-Trinity «Cross»

Початково хрест був символом поєднання божественного і людського: горизонталь (зліва направо) констатує розділення на «небесне і земне», а вертикаль (згори донизу) – їх поєднання. Тому хрест був символом релігії, адже її сенс якраз і полягає у відновленні зв’язку між божественним і людським (слово «ре – лига» буквально означає «відновлення зв’язку»). Як найдавніший релігійний символ хрест виконував роль захисного оберегу. Він під’єднував людину до позитивного егрегора, а відтак притягував до неї позитивні події. Натільні хрестики та їхні зображення зустрічаємо ще в часи Трипілля. 

Про те, що хрест – це оберіг, свідчить сама його назва. Це слово складається з двох коренів: *хр–*кр – хороший, красивий, і *ст – постійний, стабільний, міцний. Відтак «хрест» означає  «постійно красивий, хороший», «постійна краса й благо», «твердиня краси й добра». Додатковим підтвердженням є гелленське слово «хрестос», яке означає «благий, добрий, шляхетний».

Therefore, the cross was a symbol of religion, because its meaning is precisely the restoration of the connection between the divine and the human (the word "re league" literally means "renewal of communication"). The mattress crosses and their images are found even in the days of Trypillia.

The fact that the cross is a vault is evidenced by its very name. This word consists of two roots: * хр- * кр - good, beautiful, and * ст - constant, stable, durable. Therefore, "cross" means "always beautiful, good", "permanent beauty and good," "the fortress of beauty and goodness." An additional confirmation is the Gaelic word "cross", which means "good, kind, noble".

Різьблена ікона "Св. Миколай Чудотворець" / Carved icon "St. Nicholas the Wonderworker"

З поміж великих святих угодників Божих святитель Миколай Чудотворець користується особливою любов`ю нашого народу. Чудотворця знають і шанують Схід і Захід, усі християни і навіть магометани. Усе життя св. Миколая - це нескінченні благодіяння і чудеса, подані стражденному людству. Свята Церква прославляє Миколая Чудотворця як мудрого правителя, вгамівника спраглих, швидкого помічника усім, хто опинився в біді та скорботах. Він рятував потопаючих, визволяв полонених, відводив смертну кару від невинних, зціляв багатьох людей: повернув зір, виправив кульгавість, дав мову німим. Вивів багатьох з убозтва й злиднів, подав їжу голодним, був помічником нужденним і теплим заступником. Він швидко з`являється скрізь, де потрібна його допомога. І нині він приходить до тих, хто кличе його допомогти і заступити від біди. Чудес його не злічити. Усе життя Чудотворця було позначено любов`ю до ближнього. Навіть смерть не перервала його благодатних справ, його чудеса звершаються повсякчас.

And now he comes to those who call him to help and get away from the trouble. Miracles do not count him. The whole life of the Wonderworker was marked by love for his neighbor. Even death did not interrupt his gracious affairs, his miracles are fulfilled at all times.

Ложки "Абстрактні риби" / Spoon "Abstract Fish"

Експерементуючи з ложками, трапляються заготовки з зкошеними та закрученими шарами деревини. Тож вирішив не робити ложки всупереч природній структурі, а м'яко вирізати, як підказує саме дерево. Вийшли ложки на рибну тематику, можливо десь астрактні, але які вмістилися чудово в шматки верби...

Experimenting with spoons, there are workpieces with curled and twisted layers of wood. So I decided to make spoons in spite of the natural structure, but to gently cut out, as the tree itself suggests. Have spoons on the fish theme, maybe somewhere creative in content, but which fit perfectly into pieces of willow...

Давно не рибалив різьцями, нарешті дібрався до заготовки з тополі, яка вже зачекася творчої роботи. Шматок тополі був доволі товстий, тож рибина вийшла міцненька й вгодована. Прилаштував на дошці з хвильками й попливла риба в своє нове життя...

For a long time, not fishing rivets, they finally looked at the poplar harvest, which is already waiting for creative work. A piece of poplar was quite thick, so the fish came out strong and fed. Arranged on a board with waves and swam the fish into their new life...

Свічник-трійця «Громовик» / Candlestick-Trinity «Hromovyk»

Громовик (громівник, перуниця, колесо Перуна) - широко зустрічається в побуті та інтер'єрі слов'ян. Особливо часто його можна помітити в Карпатах, на сволоках хатів та старих скринях, на ручних хрестах і підсвічниках, на гуцульських рушницях і ременях, на музичних інструментах, різьблених скриньках і дерев'яному посуді тощо. Громовик - культовий, народний оберіг слов'ян, символ Перуна - бога грому і блискавки, граду, небесного вогню і дощу. Являє собою шести-, семи- або восьмипелюсткову розетку, чи то пак, колесо зі списами. Є одним із різновидів солярних знаків та зберігся до наших днів завдяки археологічним та етнографічним матеріалам. Громовик - дуже потужний язичницький символ, який "вбивав" усе лихе і негативне та брав під свій захист, допомагав концентрувати життєву енергію. Саме так можна охарактеризувати його та пояснити тотальне розповсюдження символу у слов'ян аж до наших днів. Старожили пояснюють, що священний знак також зображали на стінах будинку, щоб охороняв від блискавки.

The Hromovyk (chopper, chisel, Perun wheel) is widely found in the everyday life and interior of the Slavs. Especially often it can be seen in the Carpathian Mountains, on the beds of huts and old chests, on hand-crosses and candlesticks, on Hutsul guns and belts, on musical instruments, carved boxes and wooden dishes, etc. Hromovik - a cult, a folk cloak of the Slavs, the symbol of Perun - the god of thunder and lightning, hail, heavenly fire and rain. It is a six-, seven- or eight-pin rosette, or a pack, a wheel with spears. It is one of the varieties of solar characters and has survived through archaeological and ethnographic materials. The Hromovyk is a very powerful pagan symbol that "killed" everything evil and negative and defended itself, helped to concentrate vital energy. That's how we can characterize it and explain the total spread of the symbol among the Slavs up to our days. The old-timers explain that the sacred sign was also depicted on the walls of the house to protect from lightning.

«Посівальник» / «Sown»

Посівання - обряд в перший день Нового року за старим стилем, який збігається з християнським святом Василія Великого. На Старий Новий рік - Василя, окрім служби в церкві, традиційно зранку ходили посівати посівальники-хлопчики, обсіваючи зерном оселі родичів, сусідів, знайомих. Посівальниками мають бути хлопчики, оскільки існує повір'я, що першим на Новий рік мав зайти в хату чоловік, щоб все було добре і в родині, і в господаря. Посівали зерном, в основному - житом, пшеницею. Першому засівальнику, як правило, приділялася особлива увага, тому зранку хлопці намагалися встати якомога раніше, щоб бути першим. Всі засівальники отримують грошову винагороду, яку залишають собі або частину віддають на церкву.

Sowing - a rite on the first day of the New Year according to the old style, which coincides with the Christian holiday of Basil the Great. In the Old New Year - Basil, besides serving in the church, traditionally in the morning went to sow the boys, sowed seeds of relatives, neighbors, acquaintances. They were planted with grain, mainly rye, wheat. The first sown, as a rule, was given special attention, so in the morning the guys tried to get up as early as possible to be the first. All those who have sown receive a monetary reward, which leave themselves or a part to give to the church.

Свічник-трійця "Різдвяна зоря" / Candlestick-Trinity "Christmas Star"

Різдво має багато символів, і один із них - Зірка. Насправді ж Зірка - значно давніший символ зимових свят і увійшла в культуру пра-українців задовго до прийняття християнства. Це згодом вона стала символом Вифлеємської провісниці, а первісно була символом самого Сонця. Зірка - символ Сонця, отже, вогню і тепла. Зерно - символ урожаю і землі. (Пригадаймо собі, що на старий-новий рік хлопці засівали господарям на добрий урожай у році прийдешньому. Йордан - символ води, без якої життя неможливе. Поєднання цих трьох стихій і становить основну суть Різдва. 

Християни вважають восьмикутну зірку винятково своїм символом. Восьмикутна різдвяна Зірка - символ вічного царювання Месії. А Месія - це саме Сонце. Традиції вдало поріднилися і стали для українців найкращими в період зимових свят.
